Raheem Sterling’s goal against Newcastle has been nominated for the goal of the month award in the Premier League.
Most fans will already want to forget the brilliant free kick because of what came next, which is truly a pity as it’s the best set piece goal for the Blues since the days of Willian and co.
In a game where we struggled to string more than a few passes together it was a truly special moment, with the €50m man finding the top corner with a clipped effort that left Nick Pope rooted to the spot.
It was one of 3 goals in 4 games for Sterling in November, a month where he really stepped up and showed his superb potential, in a way that was sadly only partially matched by his teammates. If the rest of them were playing half as well as him, we wouldn’t be struggling so hard at the moment. This effort is unlikely to win, mainly because of the context, but we’re just happy Sterling’s individual form has been rewarded.
