West Ham are considering a move for €20m Chelsea left back Ian Maatsen, Rudy Galetti has reported today.
It’s not a new idea – the Hammers have been linked with Maatsen before. They were one of a number of teams keen to sign him this summer, with Chelsea beating off the advances of multiple Premier League sides to retain Maatsen’s services after a strong year on loan in the Championship with Burnley.
🚨💭 #WestHam – who already asked for info about Ian #Maatsen – are considering to make an attempt for him in January.

But for various reasons it simply hasn’t worked out, and Maatsen has barely played since preseason, where he looked a natural fit for Mauricio Pochettino’s system. It’s all a bit of a letdown for those who really thought he’s get his chance at last.
With Reece James, Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell all out of action tomorrow, Maatsen simply has to play. If he doesn’t, we’ll have to start taking links like this one with West Ham very seriously as a January move becomes almost inevitable simply due to the weight of numbers.
