Steve Cooper was left frustrated that Nottingham Forest were not awarded a penalty as their second home defeat in eight days left him under mounting pressure.
Everton’s 1-0 victory means Forest have won only one of their last 10 matches, with club owner Evangelos Marinakis’s patience wearing thin.
But the outcome could have been different had referee Paul Tierney been sent to the screen by VAR to check an apparent foul by Abdoulaye Doucoure on Ryan Yates as the Forest midfielder tried to meet a corner.
Moments later Dwight McNeil scored the only goal.
‘If you look at the penalty given to Brighton against us last week, the one today is twice that,’ Cooper said.

‘I’m not going to hide behind it but it is a penalty. That’s why referees are getting a load of stick.
‘We’re trying to help as much as we can but they’ve got to help themselves.’
Everton boss Sean Dyche came out fighting after his side’s first win since their 10-point deduction, vowing that they would rise to the challenge.
The Blues have appealed against the punishment and Dyche said: ‘It’s out of our control. One thing we can control is us. We’re ready to take it on and we have done.’
