Chelsea play today without Reece James, who is suspended after a red card last weekend.
Mauricio Pochettino was asked whether his club captain was looking contrite, and he admitted he was. He also defended James, pointing out he was only just back from another injury, and “he was a little bit tired” when he picked up the second yellow card. That’s pretty generous of him.
We know what he means – when your legs get tired, your brain gets tired too. It’s a silly mistake and as long as he doesn’t make a habit of it, it will soon be forgotten. Looking on the bright side, perhaps the enforced break will do his fitness some good.
