Manchester City target Bruno Guimaraes says he is “very happy” at Newcastle but his future is “in God’s hands.”
The Brazilian, who has been capped 20 times by his country, is being pursued by several clubs, with the Cityzens, Arsenal, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain all having been credited with an interest in the player. Asked whether he could leave St James’ Park, Guimaraes replied:
“Look, my future, to be honest, is in God’s hands. I have a contract with Newcastle, I’m very happy, as I said, I know how much they like me, I know everything I’ve been doing for the club.”
“In short, I have a contract, I’m happy. I don’t know what can happen, we know everything about Financial Fair Play, but what I can say is that I feel happy.”
We will know more about Guimaraes’ future in a couple of weeks
While the midfielder is giving little away, it is believed that the buyout fee in his contract expires on June 24th.
If City or another team don’t pay the £100m needed to trigger the clause by then, it looks likely that he will remain at Newcastle.
Are City looking at other midfield targets?
Guimaraes is by no means the only midfielder that the Premier League champions have been linked with in recent weeks. They are said to be scouting Benfica’s Joao Neves but he will also be very expensive, with his buyout clause set at €120m (£102m).
Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich would be a cheaper option, as the German has just a year left on his contract but, at 29 years of age, he isn’t getting any younger.
A move for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is being considered as well, but it is thought that City may wait until a future transfer window to make a bid for the 20-year-old.
