Paris Saint-Germain are the “only club” that have made a concerted effort to sign Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez so far this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing in his Daily Briefing column, Romano said to PSG have made a “concrete approach” to the player but they have not been given any encouragement from the Premier League champions:
“Man City still hope to keep the player because they view him as a key part of the present and future project, though Alvarez wants to play more, which of course is not easy when you’re competing with Erling Haaland for a place in the team.”
“The only club with a really concrete approach on the player side is Paris Saint-Germain – they have an interest, but at the moment there is no green light from Man City, and so it’s not something imminent.”
From three clubs to one
It was originally reported that Atletico Madrid and Chelsea were also pursuing Alvarez but Romano has confirmed that the Spanish side have effectively withdrawn from the race due to the deal being “almost impossible” for them to do financially.
There is no further update on whether Chelsea will enter the running but, from the sound of things, it appears their focus is on Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.
Will Alvarez leave City this summer?
While the Argentinian international insists he is “happy” at the Etihad, those around the player have been communicating a different message to the media.
Another trusted journalist Sam Lee has said that Alvarez has wanted out for months, with Real Madrid being his preferred destination. However, if he does leave before the transfer window closes, it seems like PSG will be the team he joins. For now, no official bid has been tabled.
