Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has expressed his admiration for Germany star Jamal Musiala.
The Bayern Munich midfielder has caught the eye with his performances during the European Championships and, when asked for his opinion on who has been the best player at the tournament so far, Doku replied:
“I like watching Jamal Musiala the most at this European Championship. It’s incredible what he can do with the ball. I really enjoy that.”
Musiala has started all three of Germany’s games, scoring against Scotland and Hungary in the first two group fixtures.
His country qualified for the round of 16 on Monday evening, finishing top of their group after drawing against Switzerland in their last match.
City are interested in signing Musiala
It was reported back in April that the Premier League champions were leading the race for the 21-year-old. The ex-Chelsea academy player has two years left on his contract and discussions over an extension have yet to take place.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has played down City’s interest, although he hasn’t completely ruled out an approach for the German international.
Musiala will be in demand if he becomes available
The likes of Liverpool, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest in Musiala in recent months but a lot will depend on his asking price.
Even if his contract situation runs down into its final eighteen months, it’s expected that the Bundesliga side will still want in excess of £100m. For a player of Musiala’s talent, you’d think that the Cityzens would be prepared to break their transfer record.
For now, any bid is some way off. As already mentioned, a deal hinges on how contract negotiations go with Bayern. Those talks are likely to be held after his participation in the Euros comes to an end.
