Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher ranked Manchester City star Rodri in 3rd place on his Top 10 ‘Blind Ranking’.
Speaking in England’s Official TikTok account, Gallagher praised the Spanish international, who he has faced on multiple occasions at club level:
“Rodri. Have to go three, great player.”
Only former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes and City legend David Silva ranked higher in Gallagher’s list.
David Beckham, former Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil and ex-Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane were all placed lower.
Rodri has been outstanding for club and country
Along with Phil Foden, the 28-year-old has been in phenomenal form for City over the last twelve months and he went 74 games unbeaten before the defeat to United in the FA Cup final last month.
Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled in Rodri’s absence but, luckily for the Cityzens, he has been fit and available for most of the campaign.
The Spaniard has continued to impress whilst on international duty at the European Championships, having performed well in the first two group matches against Croatia and Spain, before being sidelined for the Albania fixture due to suspension. He will almost certainly be back in the starting lineup for the round of 16 tie which takes place this weekend.
He’s a strong candidate for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year
There was bemusement among City supporters when the Premier League didn’t even include Rodri on their shortlist for the Player of the Season last month. Considering his excellent performances, it was very strange that he was overlooked.
As Gallagher’s ranking demonstrates, it’s unlikely that Rodri’s fellow players will make the same mistake when the nominations for the PFA award are announced in August. Both he and Foden are expected to be hot favourites to win the prize.
