Man United remain keen on signing Jarrad Branthwaite, though the Reds will not overpay to sign the Everton man.
It’s absolutely no secret that Manchester United want to sign Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton this summer. The England defender enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign, as his personal stock continues to rise as we approach an important point in his career.
Branthwaite could look to take things to the next level by sealing a big-money move away from Goodison Park, with the Old Trafford club sniffing around trying to get a deal done.
The Manchester Evening News have provided an update on that front via journalist Jack Flintham on their daily live blog. They once again claim that the 21-year-old is a ‘player of interest’ for the club.
This news comes after an initial £35m bid, plus add-ons, was turned down by the Merseyside outfit as they deemed the offer ‘unaccaptable’.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to ensure his club do not pay a ‘United tax’, hence, they will not be held to ransom to bring in Branthwaite.
Check out the MEN’s latest on that front here:
It’s thought Everton want closer to the £70m mark to allow Branthwaite to leave this summer. Obviously, that’s about double what United are currently offering. Unless both clubs are willing to budge a bit on their fee, then there is absolutely no way this deal is happening.
Money is tight for United so I do not see them going over the £50-55m mark for Branthwaite. Will Everton come down that low? I am not convinced.
It’d be a massive shame as Branthwaite is a wonderful footballer who’d improve this playing squad, but Everton are well within their rights to demand whatever fee they want for one of their prized assets.
