Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos has revealed that he has been speaking to Savio ahead of the winger’s move to Manchester City.
The pair played against each other at youth level back in Brazil and they have kept in touch. Speaking on the Fora do Jogo podcast (quotes via MEN), Santos said that Savio has been asking about what it is like in England:
“One of my best friends in football is Savio, who played for Atletico-MG. He is a phenomenon, he plays a lot. We joke about this [facing each other for Chelsea and City], because I played against him in the under-20s, in Vasco and Atletico Miniero, he did well.”
“I checked in on him, I couldn’t miss it. But we already play. I keep telling him that England is very good. He asks me what it’s like there and I tell him that it’s peaceful, that it’s good that he’s going to learn the language too and that he’s going to really like it there.”
Savio has stayed tight-lipped about a potential transfer
Although reports suggest that City have wrapped up a deal to sign the 20-year-old from Troyes, the player did not confirm that he would be moving to the Etihad when asked about his future by Flashscore last month:
“I still don’t know where I’ll be next season, my agents are still talking and we should decide in the next few weeks.”
City may send him out on loan
Savio spent the 2023/24 season with Girona, and it was a breakout year for the winger, who scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 41 appearances.
The La Liga side don’t expect him to return to Spain next campaign but City have reportedly not ruled out another loan spell. It is believed a final decision will be made after manager Pep Guardiola has had the chance to assess him.
