There is a “50%” chance that Manchester City target Joshua Kimmich will leave Bayern Munich this summer, according to Bild.
The German tabloid claims that the 29-year-old is unlikely to sign a new contract, but there is still a possibility that he will stay for another year and leave on a free transfer in 2025.
It is believed that the latter scenario will not be deemed acceptable by Bayern, as they will want to raise some money from his potential sale.
Whether City will exploit the situation by tabling a formal bid for Kimmich over the coming weeks, we shall have to wait and see.
There will be competition for Kimmich’s signature
Bild report that there are four Premier League clubs pursuing the German international, with the Cityzens being joined by the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.
The first two clubs have been credited with an interest in Kimmich for some time (along with Pep Guardiola’s side) but Chelsea’s name is new.
Whether the Blues would stand any chance of securing his signature, it is up for debate. Kimmich is said to be open to joining only 5 teams (City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool), with some reports indicating that the Etihad is his preferred destination.
How much would City need to pay for the player?
It has been suggested that Bayern would be open to offloading Kimmich for around €30m (£25m), which is not a huge fee for someone of the midfielder’s ability.
Considering that City could also need cover in central midfield, especially if Kalvin Phillips and Matheus Nunes are sold, then a bid for the German will become even more tempting.
For now, a lot will depend on how willing Bayern are to let Kimmich run down his contract if that is indeed the player’s preference.
