Manchester City are set to officially announce the signing of Troyes winger Savio “on Wednesday”, according to Sport.
The Brazilian international has been playing for his country at the Copa America and it was always expected that the deal would be finalised once his participation in the tournament had come to an end.
Savio has repeatedly refused to confirm that he would be joining the Cityzens but it has been known for a couple of months that he would seal a move to the Etihad.
It is expected that the 20-year-old will be given a chance to prove himself in pre-season before manager Pep Guardiola decides whether he wants him part of his first-team squad.
What do fans need to know about Savio?
The forward prefers to play off the left wing, cutting in onto his stronger right foot so, if he isn’t loaned, out, he will be competing with Jack Grealish for a place in the starting lineup. Jeremy Doku would likely switch wings to accommodate him.
Savio has been part of the City Football Group since moving to Troyes from Atletico Mineiro in the summer of 2022. He was immediately loaned out to PSV Eindhoven where he struggled for game time.
However, after joining Girona, the Brazilian really hit his stride, playing an influential as the Spanish club finished third in La Liga and qualified for the Champions League last campaign. He finished the season with 11 goals and 10 assists from 41 appearances.
Are City expected to sign any other players this summer?
Savio will be the club’s first official signing for the senior squad since the transfer window opened last month. Others could follow but a lot could depend on outgoings.
A deputy for Rodri is being considered, while a replacement for Sergio Gomez is being sought. A right winger could be signed as well, while a right-back may be targeted if Kyle Walker does leave.
