Manchester City may need to fend off interest from Chelsea for Oscar Bobb, according to journalist Simon Phillips.
The Norwegian international did make 26 appearances under manager Pep Guardiola last season but it is believed that the Blues could try and tempt him away by promising him more first-team opportunities.
Much like with Cole Palmer, former City Academy scout Joe Shields is the one who is pushing for his current team to snap up Bobb.
Chelsea’s Director of Professional Football and Scouting is said to be a fan of the 21-year-old and, following the success they have had with Palmer, the London club will likely trust his judgement on another City player.
Bobb needs minutes in pre-season
To keep the player onside, it is felt that Guardiola will have to show him he is a key part of his plans going into next season. That would potentially mean giving Bobb plenty of game time in friendlies and the Community Shield, before potentially offering him starts in certain league games.
Whether Guardiola is prepared to offer Bobb what he reportedly wants, it remains to be seen. As we saw with Palmer last campaign, he is willing to let anyone leave if they are not 100% happy with their situation at the club.
Chelsea have targeted another City player
In addition to Bobb, the Blues have been linked with James McAtee this summer. The midfielder has recently returned from a season-long loan at Sheffield United. Prior to joining the Blades, though, Leicester City were also keen on the player. The Foxes manager at the time was Enzo Maresca who is now in the hotseat at Stamford Bridge.
The Cityzens would probably be more open to letting McAtee leave than Bobb, but it would be a surprise if they allowed either of them to go to Chelsea this summer.
