West Ham United head coach Julen Lopetegui has received some really strong criticism this season.
Julen Lopetegui took over at West Ham on July 1st, but he has really struggled to implement a specific style at the London Stadium thus far.
Although after our win over Newcastle on Monday night, Lopetegui suggested that a combination of hard-work and high energy underline what he’s trying to achieve at West Ham.
The 2-0 victory over Newcastle certainly bought the Spaniard some time, and the emotions of the Hammers fans has since shifted.
I wouldn’t say that the feel-good factor has returned to the club, but it feels like we at least have a style of play that we can all get behind now.
It certainly hasn’t been an easy first few months in charge for Lopetegui.
And he seemingly has a big controversy to deal with now…
Julen Lopetegui rejects strong accusation from player
The Spaniard has been criticised outside of his role as West Ham head coach over the past few days.
Gerard Pique has ripped into the 58-year-old after the treatment he received from him some time ago.
Pique said that Lopetegui was responsible for his ‘worst experience as a professional’ during their time together with the Spain national team.
The former Barcelona star claimed that Lopetegui demanded that he apologise for his support of Catalan independence.
However, the Hammers boss has strongly denied those claims.
El Partidazo de COPE journalist Juanma Castano has shared what Lopetegui told him about the situation.
“Julen Lopetegui categorically denies that he told Piqué that he had to apologise,”
“He hasn’t said anything, but I think he’s not going to remain silent… and that he’s going to say it. The only thing I can tell you about the conversation I had with Lopetegui is that there are half-truths here that are worse than outright lies.“
This one sounds like it has plenty more twists and turns to come yet.
Quite who is telling the complete and utter truth is unclear.
If Julen Lopetegui continues to receive criticism from Pique though, I would imagine that the West Ham head coach will come out firing.
