Premier League rivals Newcastle United are reportedly showing interest in signing Manchester City starlet Oscar Bobb. The 21-year-old Norwegian enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Citizens last season, making 24 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting one.
Bobb’s most notable contribution came when he scored a late winner against Newcastle in January, securing a dramatic 3-2 victory for City at Saint James’ Park. According to Manchester City insider Tolmie Hairdoo, Eddie Howe is keen on bringing the youngster in on a loan deal for the season. However, Pep Guardiola is undecided about whether to send Bobb out for game experience or keep him at the Etihad Stadium.
Bobb came through the youth ranks of Norwegian clubs Lyn and Valerenga before joining Manchester City in 2019. The Guardian named him the best young talent at Man City in his age group. The attacker was handed his Premier League debut in September, coming on in the 88th minute as a substitute against Fulham.
Following some strong performances at the club level, Bobb was called up to represent Norway in October 2023. After scoring a fantastic goal against the Czech Republic in March 2024, his second for his nation, Arsenal and Norway captain Martin Odegaard had high praise for him.
“Now I played with Oscar last time, and felt we had a very good link. We found each other and understood each other. It’s always nice to play with quality players. You could see the move he showed against the Czech Republic. He has an X-factor,” the midfielder said.
Bobb is a versatile and well-rounded player, capable of playing on the wings or deeper in midfield. He is a good dribbler and passes well. While technically adept, the Norway international needs to work on becoming stronger and fitter, with the game increasingly becoming more physically intensive.
If City feel that first-team opportunities will be limited for Bobb, especially with the arrival of Savio, they should strongly consider loaning him out for regular game time. This could be an excellent opportunity for Bobb to gain valuable experience and further develop his skills.
