Leon Goretzka may not be going anywhere.
Despite Bayern Munich’s apparent efforts to offload the veteran midfielder, Goretzka is reportedly not open to a move — at least, not to any of the clubs that are in the mix so far.
From Sky Sport journalists Florian Plettenberg and Kerry Hau, as captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Leon Goretzka still wants to stay at Bayern despite all the statements and pressure by the club in the past 72 hours. There’s an interest from the MLS, but Goretzka is not interested in a move there. Only a few clubs would be interesting for him, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool. As of now, Bayern bosses are expecting that Goretzka will stay at the club this summer [@Plettigoal, @kerry_hau]
BFW Analysis
We’ve seen this saga play out at other clubs before — Mesut Özil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal FC, Frenkie de Jong at FC Barcelona. It usually does not end well for the player, and Goretzka does not look to be as integral to Vincent Kompany’s midfield plans as De Jong has been for Barça. Or even part of Kompany’s plans at all.
It looks like the long-standing Bavarian vet and Joshua Kimmich’s one-time midfield partner is on his way out. But it is still a question of when, and until it happens, the awkwardness will continue.
