Bad news hit Bayern Munich just before the start of the team’s 4-0 victory over Grasshopper Club Zürich as it was revealed that Josip Stanišić suffered a knee injury, had surgery, and will be missing for “several weeks.”
Yikes.
The hits kept on coming after the match when Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl revealed that Leroy Sané is still probably a few weeks from suiting up for the Bavarians.
“I don’t know if it makes sense to throw him in before the international break,” Eberl told Sport Bild’s Michel Schröer.
Eberl added more as well (via @iMiaSanMia): “A week doesn’t make a difference for him. He’s had to deal with this injury long enough and has struggled from game to game in the Champions League to get fit. The surgery went well and we’re now slowly introducing him back. He’s now taken part in the first parts of team training. I can’t say when, but I don’t know if it makes any sense to throw him in before the international break. He’d then have another 14 days to get fully fit.”
When asked by Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau if any other moves would be made to bolster the team, Eberl offered an abrupt statement: “The squad is set.”
The squad might appear thin at right-back now, but Joshua Kimmich and Konrad Laimer can both play the position — plus Adam Aznou did a fine job in filling the role in the win over Grasshopper Club Zürich as well.
