The PFA announced their Premier League Team of the Year on Monday, with a cast of usual suspects forming its backbone.
Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Virgil van Dijk understandably made the cut. But there are omissions – such as Chelsea’s Cole Palmer – that has driven fans to social media to question the judging process.
One player, however, has drawn fan debate – but not because of his prowess on the pitch.
Kyle Walker was spotted by fans as being the odd-one-out in this illustrious line-up of the League’s best players, because of his choice of footwear.
Fans have left comments on X, singling out the City full-back’s sartorial choices, one saying: ‘Kyle Walker should be replaced for terrible trainers he has on.’

Man City star Phil Foden has been named PFA Men’s Players’ Player of the Year for 2023-24
Another simple called-out the incongruous line-up of footwear, saying: ‘Look at the shoes Walker has on!’
It’s unlikely Walker will be bothered – not only have sneakers been the preserve of the catwalks for over a decade, but his place was certainly qualified on merit.
The 34-year-old played a pivotal role in City’s League Cup-League Championship double of last season – and yet again proved to be a defensive lynchpin for Pep Guardiola’s team, despite his advancing years as a player.
Phil Foden was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the first time, after his stunning performances helped Manchester City win a record-breaking fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Foden was named in the team at the annual PFA awards on Tuesday, where the star was also named as the PFA Player of the Year.
His inclusion followed a series of impressive displays over the course of last season, where he scored 19 league goals in 27 matches, including a final day brace against West Ham to secure Man City the title.
Cole Palmer’s omission from the PFA’s Premier League Team of the Year has left fans baffled
Champions Man City have four players in the team, while five come from runners-up Arsenal
The Player of the Year honour is voted for by Premier League players, with the team of the year compiled of the most popular options.
Foden is joined by three Man City team-mates – including sneaker-head Kyle Walker – and golden boot winner Erling Haaland, who earned a second successive PFA selection after scoring 27 goals last season.
