There has long since been the old cliché that getting a player back from injury is, in its own way, like have a new signing at a football club, and that might very well be the sentiment Vincent Kompany has adopted for Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané.
The Rekordmeister’s number 10 had been dealing with a groin injury since the ending phases of last season and he played for Germany at the Euros through a considerable deal of pain before eventually having a pubic bone operation to repair the damage in the area.
For Sané, he is one of a handful of players that has not had a full, proper preseason under Kompany, but he will have had even less team sessions than most of the other international players due to working on his individual recovery plan. He did not feature in Bayern’s 4-0 DFB-Pokal first round win at SSV Ulm and he has not been involved in any of the friendlies, but a return date is potentially getting closer.
Per information from Abendzeitung’s Maximilian Koch (via @iMiaSanMia), Sané is at a point where he is finally pain free and he is edging a full return to action for Bayern. He definitely will not be in the squad for the first Bundesliga match at VfL Wolfsburg, but he could be in contention to be ready and available as early as match week two, which is a home match against SC Freiburg for Bayern.
If Sané is not in the squad at all to face Freiburg, then it is fully anticipated that he will be back for the match against Holstein Kiel, which comes after the September international break. For the player, that would probably be the ideal scenario since he likely will not be picked by Julian Nagelsmann for the upcoming international break and he can use that time to make sure he is fully fit and ready to mark his return against Holstein Kiel.
For Kompany, having Sané back fully fit will be a much welcomed return, especially since there is still some speculation floating around that Kingsley Coman could very well transfer away from Bayern before the summer transfer window ends. They will want to have the necessary depth in attack as they push across three fronts this season.
