The FC Bayern Frauen season is upon us!
Bayern Munich slugged to a 0-0 preseason friendly draw with Juventus on Tuesday despite a strong second half performance. The occasion included half-time recognition for Bayern’s Germany national team stars: Giulia Gwinn, Lea Schüller, Sydney Lohmann, and Klara Bühl, who won a bronze medal for their country at this summer’s Olympic Games, which were won by the USWNT.
Franziska Kett, earning a start in this game, nearly supplied a goal to Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir midway through the first half, and Bayern would go on to miss other excellent chances — including in the second half from recently extended Jovana Damnjanović.
Schüller had a chance in the closing minutes but failed to reach Georgia Stanway’s cross. Hopefully the season will come with sharper finishing. The full match replay is available on YouTube from the FC Bayern Frauen channel:
In other Frauen news, the Bavarians have drawn SC Sand for the September 7th match in the DFB-Pokal Second Round. The Frauen open their league season a week prior, on August 30th, on the road at Potsdam.
