Cole Palmer netted a stunning goal against Wolves at the weekend, but technically it shouldn’t have stood.
The Chelsea star scored their second goal of the afternoon at Molineux but a little-known rule meant that his effort was wrongly allowed to stand.
The attacking move started with a Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez who played the ball up to Nicolas Jackson.
However the slow-motion footage from beIN SPORTS showed that the ball was actually moving when Sanchez hit it upfield.
According to Premier League rules, the ball must be still before being struck from a goal-kick, meaning that the following attacking play should have been stopped.
As it turned out, play was allowed to continue with the ball finding Jackson hooked the ball over the defender and into the path of Palmer.
With a moment of pure class, Palmer executed a first-time chip over Jose Sa and into the back of the net.
Thankfully for Palmer, they were saved by the fact that both he and Palmer were in an onside.
That meant that VAR had no way of intervening in the passage of play, with Stockley Park having no authority to scrutinise the goal kick.
Palmer’s goal made it 2-1 to Chelsea after Matheus Cunha leveled the game following Jackson’s opener.
Jorgen Strand-Larsen made it 2-2 at half-time before Chelsea ran riot in the second half.
Noni Madueke bagged a surprise second half hat-trick, before Joao Felix found the net to give Chelsea a 6-2 win.

Palmer has now scored 26 goals and offered 18 assists since joining Chelsea last summer as their standout star.
But if the Blues struggle to get into the top four, Jamie Carragher predicted that he could be heading back to Manchester next summer.
Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher said: “Something’s just come to me here. If Chelsea have another poor season, we were talking earlier about Manchester United having a real problem on that right wing.
“He [Palmer] is a big Man United fan isn’t he? Would that not be something that United should visit maybe in 12 months if it doesn’t go well?
“You know what, I think that could happen. Yeah, Cole Palmer to Man United.”
