Manuel Neuer is always a confident man, with his lofty reputation alone to inspire grudging respect and wariness in opponents. But it helps when he and the team are well and truly in form, as well. Spoken before Bayern Munich’s tough gauntlet of back-to-back-to-back games against Paris Saint Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, Neuer radiated confidence at the team’s state of play:
“I don’t think any of the three teams are looking forward to playing us. We feel comfortable on the pitch. We feel comfortable with what’s being asked of us.”
Of course, it is difficult to speak about good form about the moment without mentioning the six consecutive clean sheets the team had racked up: “We’ve had clean sheets before, but things are going very well at the moment,” Neuer explained, via @iMiaSanMia. “We’re trying to win the ball back in a few seconds and go forward because the opponent might not be organised yet at the back. All parts of the team are helping with that and that’s very good for our game.”
Having won a hard fought game in the Champions League against the Parisians, extending the run of clean sheets, it looks like business as usual for the Bavarian giants. Now on to the Bundesliga to face long time rivals Dortmund…
