Gabriel Vidovic’s loan at 1. FSV Mainz 05 has, so far, been quite disappointing. The Bayern Munich loanee has collected just 48 minutes in nine games in all competitions and has failed to make the match day squad six out of nine times. But, apparently, things can always get worse. Mainz recently announced that Vidović had sustained an ankle injury via their official twitter handle:
… [Gabriel Vidović] injured himself during the international break with Croatia’s U21 team. We expect a break of several weeks – the exact duration depends on the healing process. Get well soon, Gabi!
The injury required surgery, which was undertaken on Thursday, November 28. Fortunately, it was a success. But the future remains cloudy for the former Vitesse Arnheim loanee. Asked in the pre-match press conference, Mainz head coach Bo Henrikson…actually just completely ignored the inquiry to Vidović’s health. When asked again, however, the reporters eventually squeezed out of Henrikson that the club expects the 20-year-old to be out for 10 weeks.
This is a massive shame for the talented youngster, who was priced out of a permanent move to Dinamo Zagreb (could have been playing Champions League) last summer and impressed Vincent Kompany in pre-season, only to suffer such a series of setbacks.
