Manchester City are interested in signing FC Copenhagen striker Orri Oskarsson, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.
The trusted journalist claims that the Icelandic international is “high on the list” of forwards that they are considering as a replacement for Julian Alvarez.
Manager Pep Guardiola has expressed a desire to bring in a backup option for Erling Haaland, and Oskarsson is one of the names being targeted, along with Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Copenhagen forward is expected to cost around €20m (£17m) but there are plenty of other teams pursuing his signature.
City will face Premier League rivals in race to buy Oskarsson
Ornstein has confirmed that other English top-flight clubs are tracking the 19-year-old, while Real Sociedad and Porto are also reportedly weighing up bids.
At the moment, City have not pressed ahead with an offer for the player, but the club are keen on reinforcing their frontline, so we shall have to wait and see if they do make a concerted effort to sign him ahead of the transfer deadline on Friday night.
What do fans need to know about Oskarsson?
The striker came through the academy at Grotta before making his senior debut for the Icelandic club in 2019. He scored his first goal against Haukur prior to sealing his move to FC Copenhagen in September 2020.
Oskarsson initially played for the Danish side’s Under 19s and he was very prolific, banging in 41 goals in just 40 appearances. It led to him getting his first game for the senior team against Aalborg in May 2022.
The teenager subsequently went on a loan spell to second-division side Sonderjyske before returning to Copenhagen for the start of last season.
It’s been a breakthrough twelve months for Oskarsson, who scored 15 goals during the 2023/24 campaign, as well as making his first international appearance for Iceland. He has been in outstanding form in recent weeks too, having scored 7 times in his last 11 matches.
