Bayern Munich struck fast in the 2024 summer transfer window with a number of high profile early signings, adding Stuttgart defender Hiroki Itō, Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise, and Fulham defensive midfielder João Palhinha.
But as the summer dragged on, Bayern struck out on other targets — from Dani Olmo (FC Barcelona) to Désiré Doué (Paris Saint-Germain), and failed to sell big names such as Kingsley Coman and Leon Goretzka.
So the rebuilding project under sporting boss Max Eberl is only just underway — but don’t call it a failure.
“We are very happy with our squad — even though some people say that I only keep saying that and that I will believe it at some point if I keep saying it. These are people who have no clue,” Eberl said after the conclusion of transfer business (as captured by Bild, via @iMiaSanMia).
Who was Eberl putting on blast? Apparently a single journalist who had irked him with previous remarks:
Eberl’s statement was directed at journalist Cedric Pick, who previously said: “Max Eberl has to send this message. I would do the same in his position. There’s a motto for life: If you keep telling yourself the same thing, you will eventually believe it – and then you will eventually like this squad”

Were those comments fair? Bayern’s success on the field will tell the tale.
