A top West Ham United source has rubbished rumours suggesting striker Michail Antonio could be set to leave in the upcoming January transfer window.
Speaking exclusively to Claret and Hugh this morning, the West Ham insider claimed that speculation surrounding Antonio’s immediate future is total nonsense.
Furthermore, West Ham confirmed today that the club holds an option to extend the Jamaica striker’s current deal at the London Stadium.
This means Antonio cannot sign a pre-contract agreement to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season if the Hammers activate the extension clause.
There has been significant speculation over recent days that Antonio could be set to depart the club in January. This has followed on from reports that the long serving Hammers forward might be set to sign a pre-contract with Galatasaray in the new year.
When we inquired this morning whether there was any truth to the rumour that Antonio could be sold in January, the response was unequivocal. “The story is total nonsense,” claimed the club source, before adding, “We also have an option on his contract.”
So, there you have it: Michail Antonio will not be leaving the club in January, and it is highly likely he will remain a member of the West Ham squad beyond next season.
