After wins this weekend to start the UEFA Nations League group stage, Germany and Netherlands faced off Tuesday night to determine the group leader. The Dutch scored quickly but Germany stormed back to take the halftime lead behind goals from Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav. Denzel Dumfries scored the equalizer in the 50th minute and the rest of the match played out to a contentious draw.
Recently sold by Bayern, defender Matthijs de Ligt earned the start for the Netherlands. After a couple up-and-down seasons at Bayern, De Ligt transferred to Manchester United to link up with his former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.
Unfortunately for De Ligt, he gave up one of the goals and was substituted off at halftime. Before the game, De Ligt snagged the opportunity to catch up with a couple former teammates, Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović.
