According to a report from Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is planning to open contract negotiations with both Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané very shortly:
Bayern will open contract talks with Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané after the international break. Max Eberl agreed with the management of both players (both represented by the same agency 11Wins) to meet after the break. Eberl has already expressed the club’s interest in extending Musiala and Sané’s contracts during the initial talks.
For board member for sport Max Eberl, getting a deal done for Musiala is a high priority.
“Jamal is a player like very, very few. After almost every game, his teammates rave about him – for them it’s a pleasure to be on the pitch with him and it is a pleasure to watch him. At 21 years old, he has established himself at the highest international level, and his journey at FC Bayern is far from over. He wants to win titles, and that’s exactly what we want. We are always in contact, further discussions will take place. He should become a face of FC Bayern in the future,” said Eberl. “Regarding Leroy, the first thing now is to make sure he’s back on the pitch in good health soon. That’s our focus at the moment, and we’re looking forward to it, because Leroy can, with his tremendous qualities, make the difference at every moment on the pitch. He’s entering the last year of his contract, so we will have calm discussions about his future in the coming months. We all know that he’s a factor in winning titles.”
For Eberl to get Musiala’s deal done, he might have to pry open the coffers and fork over a big payday to the Germany international:
Jamal Musiala’s current contract was signed when he was still an up-and-coming youngster. He currently earns up to €9m gross per year. Bayern bosses are aware that in offer to keep Musiala, they would have to make him one of the club’s top earners. Manchester City with Pep Guardiola in particular are interested. Musiala grew up in England and the Premier League is appealing to him.
The fact Musiala was not nominated for the Ballon d’Or is an argument in favour of foreign clubs interested, as it’s more difficult for Bundesliga players to be recognized as global stars. Winning the Ballon d’Or is a goal for Musiala. That’s why Max Eberl made the statement about the award last week in order to show appreciation for Musiala in the fight to keep him at the club.
Sané is one of Bayern’s top earners. Even if other clubs wouldn’t offer him €20m/year, he would get a signing on fee that would compensate for that as he will be a free agent next summer. Another argument in favour of Sané with Bayern bosses: When he joined the club in 2020, the player forgoed an additional €5m per year, which was already negotiated. At the time, Bayern had asked for that because income had collapsed due to the Corona crisis. Sané complied with the club’s request.
Manchester City, Liverpool FC, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid are all rumored to have interest in Musiala, while Liverpool is also allegedly fans of Sané.
Buckle up Bayern Munich fans, it is going to be a heck of a ride.
In case you missed it, France Football left Jamal Musiala out of their Ballon d’Or top 30, which has sparked anger among the Bayern Munich fanbase and executives alike.
