Rumors that Jamal Musiala will leave Bayern Munich in the near future simply are not abating as the German’s contract ticks down towards its’ last year. Key to those rumors is Musiala’s apparent belief that winning the Ballon D’or, the trophy awarded to the player voted to be the best in the world, is much too difficult in Germany. And after the top 30 list for the Ballon D’or came out and Musiala was not in it, that belief may not be far off the mark.
However, when asked about the snub on international break with Germany, @iMiaSanMia, via RTL, captured Musiala’s strong response: “It doesn’t change anything. That doesn’t change my quality and what my goals are for this season. There’s no point in thinking about it. I’m focused on myself, my development and doing everything to win here with the national team and with Bayern.”
Of course, it is pertinent to remember that Musiala is simply speaking about the snub for this season, not his appreciation for the award itself. Winning it may still be a big goal for him and influence whether the former Chelsea FC player will sign a new contract at Bayern or seek a different club. But for now, with the season just getting underway, it’s not going to shake him off his course.
