Thanks to a late equalizer through a Jamal Musiala header, Bayern Munich stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund in the season’s first edition of Der Klassiker. Speaking post-game, Musiala discussed the team’s performance and what led to the Bayern goal.
“We knew the first half we didn’t play as we wanted. We came well into the second half, created chances and showed mentality. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough for a win today, but getting a point was important. Now we look ahead to the game against Leverkusen. It’ll be an important game and we have to be fresh and there for 90 minutes,” said Musiala post-game (via @iMiaSanMia).
Musiala is right about the slow start to the game in the first half, which saw Dortmund take the lead, but Bayern eventually found their balance, culminating in a Musiala header to win Bayern the point. Bayern remain unbeaten in the league thus far — the next test comes against reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB Pokal midweek.
“It was a good cross [by Olise], I took it well towards the bottom corner. I always try to be in the box for such situations. I’m even more proud of this goal than the one I scored with the national team because it was the correct technique. I’m very happy,” Musiala noted.
