In recent matches, Bayern Munich’s defense has performed at an incredible work rate to earn seven consecutive clean sheet victories. On the flip side, Bayern’s offense has been struggling to generate consistent opportunities in the final third.
In a surprise move, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany has decided to reward Mathys Tel’s perseverance with his first start since the Freiburg win back in September. The result was a 1-1 draw and Tel struggled to get into the flow of the match.
“It’s almost the same team that started against PSG,” said Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia). “We made one change. Serge is unavailable. King [Coman] spent a lot of energy [against PSG]. We need energy and pace today. Mathys did well in training. I have confidence in the boys.”
Tel has become a hot topic within transfer rumors as Bayern have started to explore a six-month loan deal that would guarantee him more playing time. Tel has always proclaimed that he wants to stay and fight for his spot at Bayern rather than go out on a loan deal. Only time will tell which decision is best for the player and the club.
