Paul Scholes believes that Arne Slot isn’t a fan of Trent Alexander-Arnold after watching the Liverpool boss at close quarters.
The Man United legend was in attendance for the Premier League clash before the international break, a contest that Slot’s side won 3-0 at Old Trafford.
Alexander-Arnold started the contest and lasted 75 minutes before being replaced – the third time in three games that he’s been hooked off by the new Liverpool boss.
According to Scholes, there could be a reason why the technically-gifted star is yet to finish a game for the Reds.
Speaking Stick To Football, Scholes said: “Watching that Sunday game, every time he gave the ball away he [Slot] was shaking his head.
“I was down there. He kept looking away and turning around to his bench.
“He was trying these long balls, which obviously he can do brilliantly. I thought, ‘I’m not sure if he likes him’.”
Carragher added: “I think the way Slot wants to play, he doesn’t want these long balls as much. ‘He will want him to stay as a player.”
Alexander-Arnold’s future at the club is under real scrutiny with his contract at the club now in its final year.
With no new deal currently being discussed, it leaves a huge question mark over the star’s future at Anfield, with the potential of a Liverpool exit now a distinct possibility.
Should Alexander-Arnold leave the club next summer, Carragher thinks that his departure would be greeted differently to the situations with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
“I think his situation at Liverpool is really interesting,” Carragher said.
“I always feel like at Liverpool and you’re a local player, leaving the club is difficult.
“You have three players in [Mohamed] Salah, [Virgil] van Dijk and Trent. I think the reaction from Liverpool supporters, with Trent it will be different.
“If you go through it – [Steve] McManaman, [Steven] Gerrard, the fans completely turned.
“I think he will be treated differently and it was interesting in the first game when he came off and he looked a little bit unhappy on the bench.
“Even though he’d only been there for two games, it was a little bit like, ‘Who do you think you are?’.”
Since graduating from Liverpool’s academy, Alexander-Arnold has gone on to make 313 appearances for the Reds.
He’s also played a key role in Liverpool’s recent glory in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
It appears there is no bad blood between the pair behind the scenes at Melwood.
Liverpool posted a video of the pair hugging at the training ground.
