It’s All Kicking Off! co-hosts Chris Sutton and Ian Ladyman have discussed the positive impact of Mikel Arteta‘s new deal at Arsenal during their latest episode of the Mail Sport podcast.
The Gunners manager inked a new three-year deal on Thursday just 12 months before his contract at the Emirates was due to expire.
Under Arteta, the north London club has consistently snapped at the heels of Premier League big beasts Manchester City, but failed to swipe the title from out of Pep Guardiola‘s grasp.
But on Thursday’s episode, Ladyman and Sutton wondered whether the future uncertainty at the Etihad might play into their Premier League rival’s hands.
With Guardiola likely to leave the club at the end of the season, the co-hosts chatted through the possibility of Man City‘s hierarchy leaving alongside him – and how the door might be ajar for high-flying Arsenal.

In the meantime, however, Arteta’s men are gearing up for this weekend’s north London derby against Tottenham, which Ladyman and Sutton also previewed on Thursday’s episode.
Arsenal currently sit fourth in the standings after three matches played, having won their opening two ties against Wolves and Aston Villa before being held to a draw by Brighton on home soil.
