Tyrell Malacia could finally be set to play for Manchester United again.
The defender, who was Erik ten Hag‘s first signing as Red Devils manager, has spent an incredibly long time on the sidelines.
He missed the entirety of last season after undergoing two knee surgeries, but has been back on the grass over the summer.
And now, Malacia’s United career finally looks set to restart, so here is when he last set foot on the pitch…
When did Tyrell Malacia last play?
Malacia last played a game 15 months ago.
His last match before his injury was for the Netherlands against Croatia in the Nations League in June 2023.
Whereas, his most recent appearance for United came even longer than that on May 28, 2023.
The Dutchman featured for the Red Devils in a 2-1 win over Fulham on the final day of the 2022/23 Premier League season.
In total, he has missed 56 games for United and over 423 days with his knee injury.
After arriving at Old Trafford two years ago, Malacia has only made 39 appearances and they all came in his first campaign at the club.
He has 22 Premier League appearances to his name and another nine in the Europa League.
But it now seems the end of his absence is finally around the corner…
When will Malacia return?
Ten Hag has confirmed that Malacia’s injury hell is set to end.
The left-back looks likely to return to United’s team training in the near future.
He was named in their 25-man Europa League squad last week and now Ten Hag has provided an update on his fitness.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Red Devils boss said: “Of course, we want to motivate him to return, but it’s not so easy when you are so long away.
“Over a season now from an injury to return, but he’s working very hard, he’s progressing really well in this moment.
“He’s making big steps, so we think, at short notice, we can expect him in the team training, and he is a talent, it’s natural.
“I expect also, soon, he can return into games then.”
