Update — 6:43AM EDT: Boey expected to miss two months
According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich right-back Sacha Boey is expected to miss two months:
Bayern are expecting Sacha Boey to be sidelined for around two months, depending on the recovery process.
In shocking news that emerged from training this morning, Bayern Munich right-back Sacha Boey is out with a meniscus tear.
Bayern Munich announced the unfortunate news on its website this morning with a brief statement:
Sacha Boey will be out of action for Bayern for several weeks after the right-back suffered a meniscus tear in his left knee in training on Sunday, as confirmed following examination by the club’s medical department. The 24-year-old has already undergone a successful operation.
While projections on exactly how long Boey will be out, have not emerged as of yet (aside of Bayern Munich referencing “weeks”), a recovery from a meniscus tear can vary depending on the severity. Given the information that Bayern Munich released, a surgery has already taken place, but it is unclear if the surgery was for a removal or a repair. Per WebMD, there are two primary windows for recovery depending on the exact issue. As you can see below, the time could be weeks…or months:
Meniscus repair: Recovery time is 3 to 6 months after surgery.
Meniscectomy: Recovery time is 3 to 6 weeks after surgery.
With Josip Stanišić also out of commission, Bayern Munich needs a right-back. Because of his expertise in playing the position, Joshua Kimmich seems like a shoo-in to get the nod — especially given the great depth that the team has in the central midfield. However, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Bayern Munich could also look to Adam Aznou, a left-back by trade, to play at least some of the minutes at the position.
