Manchester City are monitoring Morgan Gibbs-White’s situation at Nottingham Forest, according to HITC.
The website claims that Forest are hoping to offer the player a new contract, but he is attracting interest from the Premier League champions and other clubs.
City are said to be “huge admirers” of Gibbs-White, with scouts “compiling a detailed dossier” on his recent performances for Forest.
However, HITC reports that Tottenham and Newcastle are also keeping close tabs on the 24-year-old.
How much would Gibbs-White cost?
When Forest were under pressure to sell due to the issues they were facing with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules earlier this year, it was reported that they would accept an offer in excess of £50m for their playmaker.
Their stance on selling Gibbs-White may have changed since then though. The fact that Forest are keen on offering a contract extension, despite the player having just under three years remaining on his current deal, suggests they are trying to protect his value.
City are in the market for an attacking midfielder
The Cityzens’ interest in Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala is well documented and it is likely that Gibbs-White has been added to a list of potential alternatives to the German international.
His age and the fact that he is homegrown are factors in his favour but there are definitely other players on the transfer market who represent better value for money.
If City are looking to replace the likes of Kevin De Bruyne or, potentially, Bernardo Silva, fans may feel that Gibbs-White is not up to the task.
Since moving to Forest, the England international has scored 12 goals and contributed 18 assists in 84 appearances, which is not exactly a great return, especially when you compare him to someone like Musiala.
