What a night for Harry Kane.
After teasing Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga goals record last season, the Bayern Munich striker is off on a tear in 2024/25. Kane has four goals in three Bundesliga games to open the year, and ripped off four more in a single game in Bayern’s Champions League opener, a 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
The England captain enjoyed official MOTM honors for the effort — but stressed the need for even better performances going forward.
“Amazing game,” Kane reflected in his post-match interview (as captured by DAZN, via @iMiaSanMia). “The first half was really good, we took our chances. We didn’t start the second half well and got caught in a couple of second balls. We’ll have to learn from that. But the reaction afterwards was really good. It’s great to score all these goals. Today we got away with that bad start of the second half, but against top opposition we could get punished for that.”
Instead, it was Dinamo Zagreb who got punished this time — Bayern pouring on the pressure relentlessly after a second half lapse saw the scoreline cut to 3-2.
By the time the dust settled, Kane had scored three penalties — all three tucked away into the left corner behind Ivan Nevistić.
For Kane and for Bayern, it was a Champions League night to savor. But as they well know, the campaign is only just getting started.
