Bayern Munich got off to a hot start in the Champions League, defeating Dinamo Zagreb 9-2. Bayern controlled the match for the entire first half as they cruised to a 3-0 lead heading into the locker room.
Early in the match, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer flew out of the box for one of his patented sweeper keeper clearances near midfield. Unfortunately, Neuer collided with Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Josip Mišić and Neuer found himself flipped upside down for a disastrous fall.
Neuer laid on the pitch for a couple minutes but eventually got back up under his own power. Luckily, he didn’t have to make any saves and was eventually subbed off at halftime. His replacement, Sven Ulreich, immediately conceded two goals to put the game in doubt.
Bayern fans were concerned to see a midgame goalkeeper substitution, but it appears that it was more of a safety decision.
In his postgame interview (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern manager Vincent Kompany said, “It was a precaution. We didn’t want to take any risks.”
In a postgame interview with Maximilian Koch (via @iMiaSanMia), Neuer said, “It’s nothing serious.” Neuer affirmed that he plans to play in this weekend’s Bundesliga clash against Werder Bremen.
