Mathys Tel is one of Bayern Munich’s key players, despite playing a limited role to help him develop properly. He has made it clear that it will not be an issue for him and will be ready when the club needs him, and that kind of drive is what sporting director Christoph Freund sees in the 19-year-old Frenchman.
“Yes, of course. Mathys brings a lot to the table. He’s fighting for playing time. But given the competitive situation, that’s not so easy. He will make his way. I’m sure of that,” Freund said (Sky Sports Germany as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia).
Mathys has always been a fighter; a young player who is hungry to prove himself instead of griping about his situation is rare, and to think Bayern nearly let him go to Tottenham Hotspur as part of the Harry Kane sweepstakes. Several clubs also went after Tel but were immediately greeted by a big “NO.”
