Chelsea have got so much talent in their squad but stats show they are considerably better when Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson start together.
The Blues have an array of attacking talent and added Joao Felix, Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho to their ranks over the summer to give them arguably the best squad depth in the league.
Chelsea have already demonstrated their attacking strength by putting six past Wolves and scoring three against West Ham, with the supporting cast stepping up to take some of the burden off Palmer.
A lot was made of Chelsea’s failure to sign a striker but Jackson’s start to the season shows that may not be such a bad thing and the 23-year-old has four goals and two assists in five Premier League games.
Palmer has very much picked up where he left off last season and has four assists and two goals in the league, which were both set up by Jackson.
The pair are very important for the Blues and an article in The Athletic has demonstrated how important the pair are, and since the start of last season with both starting the Blues average 1.9 points per game compared to 1.3 when they don’t.
Jackson and Palmer crucial to Chelsea
‼️Chelsea’s points-per-game (1.9) with Jackson and Palmer in the team from the off is worth 72 points per season, compared to 49 points without (1.3 per game).
In each of the last six seasons, 72 points secured a top-four finish.
