It is not easy to age gracefully in football, but Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller seems to be doing a fine job. Now in a largely substitute’s role under first-year Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, Müller is flexing his influence through an active leadership role off the field — while also showing that when he gets his chances, he can still bring the fire on it.
Through it all, the 35-year-old remains upbeat.
“Generally good,” Müller said in a recent interview with Bundesliga.com, reflecting on his performances in 2024/25 so far (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Personally, I’m in a good mood and, although I haven’t picked up too many minutes so far, I’ve still been involved in every game.
“I have tried to use the time I get as well as possible, both for my team and for myself. As an attacking player, you want that feeling of scoring or assisting a goal and just making the most of every second. But if I’m being honest, we have many great individual players up front. For those four attacking positions we have 8, 9, even 10 candidates who each have different qualities and can contribute. The competition never sleeps. Nevertheless, I am still in a good mood and we have a lot of important weeks up ahead. It’s just really fun right now.”
Many players, especially in the attacking midfield position, have fallen off the map late in their careers, responding with bitterness or forcing their way out of the team. Müller, though, looks like he is going to be riding off into that Bavarian sunset — beloved and involved to the last.
