Manchester City had to settle for a point after Newcastle battled back to earn a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park.
It was the hosts who made the brighter start, but City took the 10 minutes before half time when Jack Grealish skipped past Kieran Trippier and fed Josko Gvardiol who finished coolly into the bottom corner.
After denying Joelinton on the stroke of half time, Ederson turned the villain after the break as he brought Anthony Gordon down for a Newcastle penalty. Gordon picked himself up to pull the Magpies level from the spot just before the hour mark. City pushed for a winner, but Nick Pope pulled off a fine save to deny Bernardo Silva in stoppage time.
