Cole Palmer is just a unique human being.
The only thing better than seeing him break a Premier League record by scoring four goals in a half is seeing him respond to questions about it in an interview. Has there ever been a player with a bigger gap between their footballing ability and their ability in front of the camera?
Asked for his feelings on his latest astonishing achievement, he responded as flatly as ever:
“Yeah it’s a good stat. I didn’t even know that was true, to be fair. But I’m happy about it.”
It’s incredibly endearing, and only adds to the sense that Palmer is pure talent – nothing is practised, it’s just all easy and natural. He’s as unbothered about scoring in a Euros final as he is about answering a Sky Sports question about his latest accomplishment.
