This is the low point of the season for transfer rumours. The summer window is comfortably behind us, but January is still distant. It’s amazing how quickly things will develop though – we’re into October now, meaning November, when things really start to ramp up on this front, is just around the corner.
So it’s time for some new ideas to be fed into the transfer rumour machine – as the season develops, we get inputs to feed in and see what it comes up with. A really juicy one today feeds off the early success of Conor Gallagher at Atletico Madrid. The gradual diffusion of Premier League players abroad has seen Atletico become a top destination, and it’s no surprise to see other unwanted Chelsea players linked with moves to join Gallagher.
Another England international could shine in La Liga
In this case it’s Ben Chilwell, an idea which makes sense to us. He’d be following in the footsteps of Kieran Trippier as well as Gallagher.
Spanish site TodoFichajes say that the “good relationship” between Chelsea and Atletico, which has smoothed over a lot of moves over the last few years, could help in this case too. Chilwell is on a lot of money but has been told time and again by manager Enzo Maresca that he’s not in our plans.
A solution is needed, and Atletico could be providing a great out for the Blues.
It’s easy to see his physical style fitting in wonderfully in Diego Simeone’s team, and him flying down the left in La Liga could be really successful. The finances will be tricky to sort – but if something can be done on that front, we don’t see why this can’t happen.
