Back in 2020/2021, Leroy Sané was the anointed wing saviour for Bayern Munich and was going to rule the position for years to come.
Depending on your perspective, Sané has either done a good job in manning the position or underachieved due to a myriad of reasons. Regardless, Sané is playing out the final season of his contract and has been expected to ink an extension at some point during this campaign.
However, one report is suggesting that the emergence of Michael Olise might have Sané sweating his status on the team — and potentially looking at alternatives for where to spend the next stage of his career:
Leroy Sané would love to stay at Bayern, but he sees it’s not getting easier with Michael Olise in the squad. At the moment, Sané is still in talks with Bayern and they remain his first option – but he’s also keeping an eye on the market with a contract expiring next summer.
It still feels like Sané will re-up with Bayern Munich, but if the Olise part of the story is true, it could have him thinking about his future. So far, Vincent Kompany has been reluctant to start Olise and Sané together, which is likely complicating things.
With Kingsley Coman’s status extremely uncertain and Serge Gnabry not 100% solidified with his own spot on the team, Bayern munich could be looking at a complete revamp of the position — something some folks wanted to go down last summer.
Another year, another striker?
Rasmus Højlund…Joshua Zirkzee…now RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško? Manchester United could be thinking about a move for the Slovenian star:
Erik ten Hag has asked for Man Utd to pursue RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško in an attempt to solve their scoring woes.
Bayern Munich’s scorching start has hit a little bit of a bump in the road, so this weekend’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt figures to be an important one.
No one — and we mean no one — wants to see the Bavarians enter this break on a three-game winless streak, so let’s get moving!
How does everyone feel about things? Let’s discuss the state of it all. This is what we have on tap for this episode of the Weekend Warm-up Show:
- Breaking down the Vincent Kompany conundrum — it is okay to criticize him as he goes along the path of figuring out how to make Bayern Munich the best possible team it can be. However, it is far too early to jump off the bandwagon (unless you want to pull the Charlie Day “Wild Card” move…which is always acceptable).
- An injury to Jamal Musiala has some fans holding their collective breath.
- Analyzing the German national team roster selections and how things might play out. Also, taking a look at who got left out from Germany’s squad.
- A show wrap up that includes some final thoughts headed into the weekend, plus an update on the Game of Thrones re-watch.
Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán was the star of the game against Bayern Munich earlier this week when he scored the game-winner. Now, Chelsea FC could be interested in the attacker:
Aston Villa would not leave striker Jhon Durán leave the club for anything less than a fee of £80m, according to TEAMtalk.
The Colombian has had an incredible start to the season, scoring six goals despite only starting one of his nine appearances.
Durán saw his star rise further this week when he scored the winning goal against Bayer Munich on Villa’s first home game in the European Cup/Champions League for 41 years.
Chelsea remain interested in the 20-year-old, but it would take a fee more than four times that which Villa paid Chicago Fire to sign him in January 2023 for them to part with him now.
Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is on the transfer radar of quite a few clubs:
Manchester City could target Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi in January as they step up their search for a replacement for the injured Rodri. Liverpool could too reignite their interest.
Per TBR Football (via 90Min.com), Arsenal FC and Real Madrid are also keeping an eye on Zubimendi:
Arsenal are also looking at Zubimendi, but they believe he is holding out for a move to Real Madrid.
For Arsenal, the club is looking for a new midfielder regardless of whether or not it can get him (CaughtOffside via 90Min.com):
Even if Zubimendi is off the table, Arsenal are expected to sign a new midfielder in the summer of 2025.
Bayern Munich is coming off of two games without a win and will be looking to add three points to its total with a tough matchup on the road against Eintracht Frankfurt.
After earning a 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen and dropping a 1-0 decision to Aston Villa in the Champions League, Bayern Munich will seek to see its vaunted attacking group get back to its high-scoring ways.
That could prove to be a difficult task against a talented and dangerous Eintracht Frankfurt side, who is currently sitting in second place, just a point behind Bayern Munich. This is what we have on tap:
- Why this match will tell us a lot about both teams.
- A look at where each team is in the table and the recent form of each squad.
- A look at the rosters and injuries for Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayern Munich.
- A guess at Bayern Munich’s starting XI.
- A prediction on the match.
Paris Saint-Germain might be considering a pursuit of Liverpool FC star Mo Salah. It might not be true, but it does kind of make sense:
Paris Saint-Germain still hope to sign Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, The Sun reports.
Salah, 32, is out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season, but PSG believe he can still compete at the top level of European football for at least another three years.
The Egypt international, who already has six goals and five assists this season, revealed last month that he could be playing in his final season for Liverpool with his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign.
He said on Sept. 1: “Nobody in the club has talked to me yet about contracts, so OK I’ll play my last season and we’ll see at the end of the season. It’s not up to me.”
Juventus is keeping a close eye on Athletic Club winger Nico Williams:
Juventus are the latest side to join the race for Athletic Club winger Nico Williams, who remains a top target for Barcelona and a number of Premier League sides.
Bayern Munich’s second Champions League match of the campaign was no cake walk.
The Bavarians battled Aston Villa, but fell short in a 1-0 loss that was the first loss of the season for the Bavarians. There is a lot to talk about, so let’s get to it. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:
