Every Bayern Munich fan knows just how stark the disappointment of the 2023/2024 season was due to, among other reasons, being the first trophy-less season since 2011/12. But as great as the disappointment was, the greater the determination is now to make things right.
“Not winning a trophy has given us motivation, I would say so, of course,” Bayern winger Serge Gnabry said, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “Every time you fail in a kind of way, it gives you a little bit of an edge of more motivation. We want to win every game. We’re coming here to win the game. We have a great group together. We’re all pulling on the same string. Very hungry, very motivated.
“[Kompany has taught me] to stay hungry. We’ve shown that at the moment. Our games are very consistent. We always keep pushing until the last minute to not let anything slip in the game or let loose. Always keep control of the game. For us attacking players, it’s good to have a lot of chances to score a lot of goals.”
Gnabry and the other attackers have certainly held up their end of the bargain so far this season, delivering countless goals in thrilling victories and total performances. But good performances in the early months of the season do not win trophies (unless you count the Supercup) and it is important that this hunger and motivation sticks around for the crucial part of the season.
