Lionel Messi took another dig, highlighting his feelings about playing at Paris Saint-Germain from 2021 to 2023. The Argentine recently played against Charlotte FC in MLS action and had a quick conversation with an opponent over his stint in the French capital.
All these remarks that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has made since leaving last year will make for an awkward situation in 2025. Reports suggest Inter Miami will occupy the host nation spot at the 2025 FIFA World Cup, for which PSG has qualified.
This week, journalist Ben Jacobs reported for Give Me Sport that Inter Miami are likely to be confirmed as the host representative for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium could host the opening game featuring them.
If Messi and PSG cross paths, they will undoubtedly ask him about this latest remark. Former Toulouse and current Charlotte FC player Brecht Dejaegere noted what Messi thought about playing in Paris.
“At the final whistle, I asked him if he felt better in Miami than in France,” Dejaegere said (h/t Sport.fr). “I told him that I had played against him with Toulouse at the Parc des Princes. He didn’t remember me… but it was my childhood dream coming true.
“Messi has always been my favorite player! It was crazy to run into him… And so, that day, he told me that for him, at PSG, it was ‘la mierda.’ Yes, ‘la mierda’ (He bursts out laughing).”
