It’s only a year since Cole Palmer’s first Premier League goal, yet in the time since then his fame has gone stratospheric.
From a talented kid in the Man City academy who looked like he would never get his chance to one of the biggest stars in the whole Premier League in the space of a year. It’s been a quite incredible turnaround for Palmer.
The way people speak about him now is incredible even compared to 6 months ago. He’s now getting comparisons to true Premier League heroes like Dennis Bergkamp, and the demands for him to be a star for England are only growing. He was underused in the Euros, but his goal in the final (as well as his slew of goals for Chelsea since then) has ensured he’s guaranteed to be considered a key player going forward.
Palmer ready to audition for full England role
Just check out what former Arsenal and England winger Theo Walcott had to say about the Wythenshawe Wizards:
“You can’t leave him out of any team, and I am talking about England too”, Walcott said on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He is so gifted, he will have that awe around him so that players are afraid of him. If he continues like this, he is going to be a legend of the Premier League.”
It will be very interesting to see how Lee Carsley deploys him for England in the two games in this international break.
Chelsea will be begging the interim coach to not overuse their star boy – but Carsley is auditioning for the job now, and figuring out how to fit Palmer into a team already stuffed with world class attacking talent is going to be a major part of his pitch to those with the power to appoint him full time.
