Jhon Durán was a crucial part of the well-oiled machine that Unai Emery drove to victory against Bayern Munich at the German clubs last outing to England for the Champions League. But, in an alternate future, Durán could have been in red for that game.
According to journalist Eduardo Burgos (captured by @iMiaSanMia), the Colombian forward was in demand last summer transfer window, specifically in Germany and France. Namely, Bayern Munich and PSG both were seriously interested in signing the Aston Villa striker, and Durán was very close to actually making the move. According to that same report, he preferred a move to Germany.
Obviously, that move never happened. But why? Aston Villa themselves blocked his transfer to Bayern Munich, after coach Unai Emery touted him as a future star. Seeing his potential, Villa made sure the move never happened. Fast forward to a year later, Durán was extremely crucial in Aston Villa’s victory against a stunned Bayern Munich, and played a massive role in ending the German clubs 41-game unbeaten record streak.
Would Durán have been just as crucial of a player at Bayern? Or was Harry Kane always the right choice? Let us know in the comments!
