Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer will take part in his former Germany teammate Lukas Podolski’s farewell match. Podolski represented Germany 130 times and scored 49 goals. Only Lothar Matthäus, Miroslav Klose and Thomas Müller represented the national side more than he did. He was awarded the Best Young Player award in the FIFA World Cup in 2006. He is also the third highest scorer in the history of the national side behind Klose and Gerd Müller.
Podolski, who was born in Poland, chose to represent Germany; he is considered a son of Köln after representing the club at youth levels and in the top flight. His prolific time in Köln saw him earn a move to Bayern Munich in 2006, and, as happens to so many players, it did not quite work out. He left Bayern in 2009 for Köln; the striker would also go on to play for Arsenal, Inter Milan and Galatasaray among other clubs.
Germany is finally set to give him a well deserved farewell. Per @iMiaSanMia, his former managers Joachim Löw and Hansi Flick will be on the sidelines. His current teammates from Górnik Zabrze will also be there. Neuer, former captain of Germany will also take his place on October 10, 2024:
